Sue Amerman

In the Hands of the Potter

In this devotional Sue shares a time when she was moved to tears as she observed a potter demonstrating the process of creating a clay pot.  God uses this very picture in Jeremiah 18:1-5, to tell Israel that although they have sinned, He is ready and willing to start over, reshape them, and make them new, “just as the potter does”.  There are so many parallels between the potter and our God.  We see the intimacy between the potter and his clay.  We see the patience He displays to work gently to create something beautiful.  We also see that when flawed, the potter is always ready to start over, make a broken thing new and beautiful.  This is the work that our God wants to do with each one of us.  You will be encouraged to see the heart of the Father as He wants to make you new, beautiful and ready to fulfill your purpose.

Stop, Look, and Listen Retreat

A retreat based on the book “The Pursuit of God” by A.W. Tozer

In this retreat, through an amazing book by A.W. Tozer “The Pursuit of God”- we learn how to “Stop…Look….and Listen,” so that our God can reveal Himself to us.   When we do that, we will be rewarded with an intimate relationship with the living God.  Tozer says, “God is waiting to be wanted.”

Through his teaching, stories from the Word, personal reflection time and small group time, we will open our eyes to the opportunity of encountering the living God.

“A spiritual kingdom lies all about us, enclosing us, embracing us, altogether within reach of our inner selves, waiting for us to recognize it.  God Himself is here waiting for our response to His presence.  This eternal world will come alive to us the moment we begin to reckon up its reality.”

Tozer prays…

“Make heaven more real to me than any earthly thing has ever been.”

More than ever, in these difficult days, we need to learn how to stop, look for our God and listen for the “still small voice.”

"I Am"...All That You Need

Who is the God of the Bible? How has He revealed Himself to us in His word? God gives us His name for the first time as He speaks to Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3:14. He says, “I AM who I AM.”

What a name! “I AM”…Thousands of years later, Jesus calls Himself “I AM” in John 8:58.

In this retreat, we will seek to know this God with the mysterious name, as we study the “I AM” passages of Jesus. We will find that He is all that we need for this life and the next.

When we enlarge our picture of who God is, it changes the way we think, the way we live and the way we pray.

Join me as we discover the Great “I AM”. He truly is all that we need!

Our Living Hope - Discovering the Holy Spirit

In this retreat, we will try to enlarge our view of the Holy Spirit. He is not just the dove that hovers over Jesus at His baptism. He is the third person of the Trinity and equally God. If that is true, then I want to know all about Him. In this retreat we will look for Him throughout the Bible - Old Testament, New Testament and in the ages since. Jesus knew that in these dark days we would need the Holy Spirit for He can dwell inside of us. He is our parakletos, our comforter, our counselor, our strength. He is ever present within us. He will be the One who enables us to stand when our faith is tested. I want to know all about Him for I realize my need for Him. He is our Living Hope for these uncertain times.

Entering His Presence - Experiencing the Tabernacle

A one or two day retreat

This one or two day retreat allows women to have real alone time with God. Following a short teaching on each element of the tabernacle, the women will be encouraged to go “away by themselves to a quiet place” and allow God to speak to their hearts.  This retreat is a powerful tool for healing as we experience all that the tabernacle has for us. Take a journey through His tabernacle and find the power to live in this life and the next.

The Fragrance of His Prayer - John 17

Don’t be afraid, Jesus prayed.

In John 17 we get a glimpse of our Lord’s heart.  He knows He is leaving soon and His last ministry to His disciples and to us is to pray for us.  You will be comforted and encouraged to meditate on His thoughts and prayers for you.

A cord of Three Strands - A Marriage Retreat

Dr. Peter and Sue Amerman have been married for forty years. They enjoy meeting with couples to help them find oneness in marriage. They have learned in their own marriage, that oneness begins by putting God at the center of their relationship – “for a cord of three strands is not easily broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12b

Through their teaching and interactive exercises, couples will have an opportunity to spend personal time with God. They also will then share with one another for better understanding, healing and communication.

The Father's Heart at Christmas

When we tell the Christmas story, we speak of angels, shepherds, a star, Mary and Joseph, a manger… There is one character that we leave out of the story - the Father. Where was He on Christmas morning? What was He feeling, thinking? Drawing from all that the Word teaches us about the heart of God, we take time to see his heart as His one and only son was born of a virgin and entered into our world.

Discovering the Fathers Heart

We think of Jesus as the suffering servant, but who is the Father, the first person of the Trinity to you? Is He creator, law giver, judge?

Through her encounters with God in her personal walk, Sue has discovered glimpses of the heart of the Father- His patience, compassion and relentless love. She has found a God who never gives up pursuing His people, even when they rebel and reject Him.

In this weekend retreat, you will see the Father's heart revealed in Creation, Hosea, Jesus' picture of the Father in the Prodigal Son and the agony of the Father as He lets His Son go to fulfill the plan of salvation.

Be ready to be overwhelmed with His love!

The Three Trees

This teaching comes with an amazing visual. You will see a Christmas tree stripped bare and then transformed into a cross. This becomes an amazing picture of Jesus emptying himself of His divine majesty, dying for our sins and giving us new life. This journey takes us from the tree in the garden to the tree of the crucifixion to the tree of life. Truly the story of the Bible.

What if the Manger was Empty?

We know the story so well, but we rarely reflect on the true gift of His coming. It is important to take some time to imagine life if he had not come. Who would we be? What would be our hope? But, Praise God, He did come!

In this reflection , you will never look at the manger in the same way again!

A Letter From Mary

If Mary were here today, how would she tell her story? Based on scripture, Sue helps you relive the moments of Mary’s life - the fears, the joy, the tears, the sorrow and the hope as she grew to understand the reality that her son was also the son of God. She was an amazing woman of faith. Let Mary speak to your heart as she tells her story.

Jahleel - Through the Eyes of the Shepherd

Jahleel- A Christmas devotion through the eyes of a shepherd.

In this devotional, Sue looks into the lives of shepherds in the days of Jesus.  They were poor, overlooked, disrespected, often outcasts in society.  We examine this group of people through the eyes of one shepherd boy named Jahleel.  Jahleel means- one who has hope in God. In this story, we see that Jahleel didn’t feel that his name represented his life.  He didn’t feel hope in God.  He felt despair. He lived a life of poverty with no hope for a better future.  He was born in poverty, he would live out his life in poverty. Where was the God who would bring him hope?

All that changed in one strange, incredible, unbelievable night.  Jahleel has an encounter with the living God.  In this story we can see ourselves in him.  We can regain our hope as we see Jahleel’s God change his life and the life of the entire world for all time.

This devotion will encourage you to look up and see the God of hope…even in your darkest night.
